Hester Bateman Georgian Silver Ladle
(Item: HBLADLE)

George III Toddy Ladle by Hester Bateman

As quoted in “Old Silver” by Wyler in a 1937 3rd edition: “The name of Hester Bateman is by far the best known of the five [other Batemans listed], and the work by this celebrated lady smith is greatly in demand. The delicate craftsmanship which was characteristic of her has influenced greatly present popularity. As only a few pieces bearing her hallmark are available, higher prices are paid than ever before.” The marks on this fine piece of Georgian silver date it to 1790. It is made of silver and whale baleen and measures 14” in overall length. It is in good condition with fine chasing on the fittings.
